Inspire::Offer A Work Placement

Offer a Work Placement

Each year hundreds of Hackney students are eager to experience the world of work by taking on tasks and responsibilities for a real business or other organisation.

1500 Hackney students, aged 14-16, have the opportunity to undertake a two week placement each year. Many others need placements in particular sectors or types of jobs to support their vocational learning. These are often extended placements where a student may work with you for one or two days a week over several weeks or months.

By hosting a work experience student you can benefit from some extra help in the knowledge that you are helping to shape the workforce of tomorrow – and putting something back into the local community.

Students can provide you with:

  • Enthusiasm and energy to complete tasks and projects
  • Fresh ideas and a new perspective on your business and its challenges
  • In-depth knowledge of the youth market to help you keep a step ahead
  • Up-to-date computer skills, often with advanced knowledge of the software packages used in business

Benefits to your business:

  • Boost your employees’ motivation and job satisfaction
  • Develop your own or your team’s management and supervision skills
  • Raise your profile amongst potential customers and the wider community
  • Access new recruitment channels and potential future employees
  • Contribute to improving the local skills base
  • Receive an Inspire Certificate of Recognition for supporting local students

Benefits for students:

  • Increased motivation by making education more relevant to life outside of school
  • Improved employability through developing their skills and knowledge
  • Better understanding of the world of work and a particular occupational area
  • New possibilities for their future careers, which can encourage them to study harder
  • Sense of real achievement and satisfaction
  • Chance to learn from an adult role model

Is my business suitable for students?

  • Your business must have Employers’ Liability insurance
  • Your workplace must provide a safe environment for a student
  • You must provide support and supervision for your student

Does it cost me anything?

No, all costs will be borne by Inspire and the student’s school.

Help to prepare for your student

  • Inspire will visit you to help you identify appropriate tasks and a simple job description and to carry out a health and safety check.
  • Inspire will give you guidance on how best to support your student
  • Inspire and school staff will be available to provide advice throughout the placement
